My mother and my sister are jewelers. I’m the sewer and crafter in the family but we’re all very handy, in every sense of the word. My dad’s first job was to assemble bicycles at a toy store.

Anyhow, my sister, Marna Burr Hedeen creates beaded jewelry and metalwork. Her talents are hampered only by my little niece who keeps Marna’s hands too busy to thread size 8s these days.

My mom, Marjorie Burr uses a torch to melt glass rods and make beads by hand. She also electroforms some of the beads and seedpods. The results of those experiments remind me of “middle earth” relics.
